Hit Them Where it Counts

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gave us yet another reason to get out of the public school system on Monday. The governor signed a bill requiring all private colleges and schools accepting students with Cal Grants to condone homosexuality, transsexuality, and bisexuality, with no exception for even faith-based institutions.

Conservative Christian figureheads are once again rallying behind the cause of conservatism, as another battle against religious freedom is not surprisingly lost in the most liberal of US states. Sadly, private schools are no longer safe from the permeation of worldly values. Furthermore, we’d be naïve to think it would stop there. Because sexual behavior is variable, there’s no telling how many other deviant behaviors will eventually be condoned. There are already social movements fighting for the rights of grown men who wish to have sexual relationships with young boys. Although this particular interest group has yet to gain mainstream popularity, they are steadily gaining ground.

Politically conservative groups like Focus on the Family are currently urging parents to fight back against the leftist agenda. I would argue that it’s not worth fighting a losing battle. Why picket outside a government building when you can hit them where it hurts. Take your child out of public school and remove their funding. If Christians were to take such a bold stand, it would bring our public school system to its knees, begging us to come back.

Studies show that only 95% of homeschooled students graduate from high school with a strong Christian worldview. On the other hand, only 15% of Christian kids graduate from public school with a belief in Christ. Our young children are not yet equipped to be thrown into daily spiritual warfare. Although saddening, we should not be surprised at such a figure. By sending our kids to public school, we are virtually throwing them to the wolves.
