Eat Well to Live Better!

By Mimi Rothschild

Homeschool children lead a busy life. They are modeled to become champions in life. They are taught to be the best in academics, sports, extracurricular activities, and interactive communication skills. To be energetic and in top form, they need to eat the right kind of nutritious foods. Parents of homeschool children have to make sure that their children eat ample amount of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and whole grains.

Homeschool students should always eat small snacks between their three meals a day. They can have those three meals in moderate quantities, and fit in small, nutritious snacks in between. Some good snacks are dried fruits, eggs, yogurt, milk products, fresh fruit, and juice.

You should ask your homeschool children to limit donuts, butter, and other foods that are rich and high in fat. Instead, you can encourage them to have small muffins, biscuits, fresh juice and milk between meals. Also, they should avoid carbonated drinks and excess caffeine. You can give your homeschool children soup, a smoothie made with fruit, or a salad with low-fat dressing. You should have your homeschool children eat lean meat, fish, eggs, and yogurt, because these foods are rich sources of protein. Also, make sure that you store a lot of canned food for your homeschool children, like canned fruit, canned fish, and canned beans in tomato sauce.

For homeschool children who are too thin, you should have them consume nutritious food with added calories. For example, try to serve fruit custard rather than just custard, a cheese sandwich rather than a normal sandwich, and let them eat ice cream with fruits and nuts. For sandwiches that you prepare for your underweight homeschool children, make sure that you use different versions of bread like buns, pita, bagels, etc, and add adequate fillings like meat, eggs, or cheese. Also, add a dash of calorie-rich mayonnaise or butter on the toast that your homeschool student eats.

The homeschool student who is overweight should stay away from calorie-rich foods like ice cream, cream cheese and pizza, but should still eat nutritious food like grains, meat, fruits and vegetables. Along with nutritious food, it is also important to have a fit body. Parents can teach their homeschool children to exercise often and indulge in activities like sports and dancing. Exercise and regular physical workouts are important for every homeschool student, because a healthy body promotes a healthy mind.
