Cutting Edge Curriculum for the 21st Century

by Mimi Rothschild

President John F. Kennedy believed that “Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education.” Many other prominent Americans have agreed with this philosophy. Fifty years later, however, our educational system is still struggling to define itself as a progressive institution.

Our nation has resisted the concept and implementation of “progressive education” since its arrival in the 19th century. Progressive education has been outlined as learning-by-doing. In today’s Internet-driven world, that “doing” should involve technological capacities.

As our technological capabilities increase, our world becomes smaller. Our nation’s youth are comfortable with technology in a way that previous generations never could have imagined. Education must keep pace with these rapid changes if it hopes to stay relevant in the lives of our learners. Thus, progressive education must become technology education.

E-learning is an excellent example of how technology can be manipulated to provide education alternatives in the 21st century. In this internet-driven world, e-learning is defining itself as the method of choice in the progressive education environment.

E-learning integrates electronic resources into familiar text-based lesson content using modern technology. Online schooling not only provides students with educational content, but also reinforces that content with interactive websites, videos, audio links, online assessments, etc.

Learning by Grace, Inc. agrees with Carl Barzun’s theory that “The test and use of a man’s education is that he finds pleasure in the exercise of his mind.” Learning by Grace provides an atmosphere of academic freedom by transforming educational content from inactive pieces of information into meaningful interactive experiences.

Combining a resource base of over 730,000 images, 44,600 videos, and the endless number of available websites on the Internet, the possibilities for stimulating education at Learning by Grace are endless. The Internet contains thousands of engaging resources that are simply fun to explore. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Learning by Grace weaves these available resources into its lessons, providing students with an enriching and constructive e-learning experience.

Education has been propelled from classroom learning to e-learning. Learning by Grace stands on the forefront of this brave new world.
