“My path to truly accepting Christ in my heart was a long one, and I want it to be easier for my children. Children must be taught from the beginning of their lives that they are to live by God’s standards, not the world’s. The MorningStar Academy helps parents do that by supporting students in their relationships with the Lord and directing them down the right path. With The MorningStar Academy your children will receive an education that instills Christian principles, not one that rejects them.”
- Candace Cameron Bure, DJ Tanner of hit sitcom Full House -
CANDACE CAMERON BURE: A LIFE IN CHRIST
Candace
Cameron Bure is perhaps the best answer to the question: "Can you be
successful in the entertainment industry and still live a wholesome
Christian life?" She has that success and does live that life, but she
didn't always live her life with the Lord.
Christian Beginnings
Cameron Bure was born as Candace Helaine Cameron on April 6, 1976 in
Panorama City, California. She has three siblings: two sisters, Bridgette
and Melissa, and brother Kirk (the star of the 1980s television series,
"Growing Pains"). Until the age of 12, she had never set foot inside of a
church; but when her family started attending church, she began to see
changes in them and she started to understand that Jesus was making those
changes. Cameron Bure remembers well the Sunday morning that she accepted
Christ into her life, the baptism that soon followed as well as her
excitement about becoming a Christian.
When Cameron Bure first became a Christian at the age of 12, she was already
a celebrity due to her role as DJ Tanner on the hit sitcom "Full House" and had a very busy life working on television and movie sets,
doing school work, traveling and meeting her fans.
She enjoyed this full,
busy, existence and the Church became less of a factor in her life. As she
grew older, her schedule only got more hectic. While she always felt
that she had God in her heart, He became less of a presence in her life. Her
understanding of living a Christian life was when you do something wrong,
you ask God in your heart to forgive you and He will.
Slips Along the Way
Cameron Bure lived with her family until she was 18 years old. When she
moved out on her own she had all the worldly resources she could ask for,
and she also had a level of fame and a lifestyle that put many temptations
in her way. She gave in to many temptations and realized she was sinning
against God, but felt that God would forgive her as she believed He always
had. When she looked around her, looked at the people she worked with
and lived near and saw the drugs, alcohol and crime that consumed many of
their lives, she felt that she was a saint.
Revelation
Cameron Bure's illusion of her “Saintly” existence started to give way to
reality when she read the book Left Behind. That book started what
would be a real change in her; in the way she looked at and lived her life
and in the way she knew she was being judged by God. The best selling novel
series had a character that intrigued her and started her thinking. The
character was Pastor Bruce Barnes, a Christian Minister who was "left
behind" after the rapture. “How could that happen?” Cameron Bure asked
herself. How could a Christian minister not be taken during the
rapture? She received her answer to that question not only in the Left
Behind series of novels but in a book her brother Kirk gave to her,
The Way of the Master. She came to understand that her childish
understanding of sin and forgiveness was way off the mark; she came to
understand that God would judge her by His standards and His standards were
clearly set out in His Ten Commandments. That understanding changed Cameron Bure's life -- as it had already changed her brother's life.
Candace Cameron Bure Today
Cameron
Bure met her husband Valeri Bure, a Russian-born professional Hockey player,
at a charity Hockey game in 1994. After a long distance romance that
consisted of many trips to Canada where Valeri was playing, Valeri proposed
to her in 1995 in Paris, France. In June of 1996, Candace Cameron became
Candace Cameron Bure.
Today, Cameron Bure and Valeri Bure live in California and have three beautiful children with very Russian names in honor of their father's heritage: Natasha Valerievna Bure (now 7-years old), Lev Valerievich Bure (now 6-years old) and Maksim Valerievich Bure (now 4-years old).
Cameron Bure still makes occasional movies and television appearances but
does a lot of charity work, she spreads the Word of God on radio shows and
in personal appearances and she focuses on her family. Valeri is currently
on the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Team roster, but due to knee and
hip
problems that are occupational hazards for professional hockey players, he
has been at home more often enjoying his family.
One of Cameron Bure's most exhilarating Christian experiences was her recent and very first missionary: a trip to Saboba, Ghana (Africa) with 10 other people, including her mother, Barbara Cameron. Especially rewarding were her experiences working with the children of Saboba. Cameron Bure, her mother, and two other missionaries had the experience of a lifetime teaching a Vacation Bible School. More than 300 children in attendance learned the 10 Commandments, were told stories from the Bible, sang Bible songs and were solidly started in a Christ-driven life. Candace Cameron Bure is now excited about endorsing Learning By Grace managed academies such as The Morning Star Academy.
