Devotions for the Homeschool Family -- Continued
When Jack became angry, he said things that were not kind. He talked harshly to his sister, and mumbled and grumbled at his parents.
God tries to help us from talking too much. His Word says that our tongues are like fire. But God put two things on the outside of our "fire-tongues" to keep us from saying things we should not say. Do you know what they are? Look in the mirror.
God put teeth in our mouths. If we keep our teeth together we cannot talk so easily. Our teeth can keep our tongues from talking. Then God put one more wall around our tongues and the lips.
God gave us the wall of teeth, and the wall of lips, to keep our tongues from saying things they should not say, but we still let our tongues sin very often. Shimei was told to stay within the walls of Jerusalem. He did this for a time, but one day he left the city and went out. As a result of this, he died. He had not stayed within the walls.
Be sure that you "keep your tongue from evil." Keep it within the two walls.
Memory Verse: "The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity" James 3:6).
Prayer Requests: If you have a temper, ask the Lord Jesus to help you control it. Remember, a bad temper is not a good testimony for the Lord Jesus. Ask Him to help you every single day.
THE CATCH
Songs: "I Have the Joy"; "Come to Jesus Just Now"
Scripture: Ephesians 4:23-31
Story: Jack and his dad went fishing. Jack put the bait on the hook and threw his line into the water. All at once a fish began to nibble on Jack's bait. Quickly Jack jerked at his line. When he pulled it in, there was no fish there. Jack's dad explained that the next time he felt a nibble he should let the fish play with it for a while. "Give him more line," said Dad. "When he is securely caught, you can bring him in."
Jack obeyed his father. The next time a fish began to nibble Jack waited. In just a little while he pulled in a great big fish.
