Devotions for the Homeschool Family -- Continued
"If we had gone through the red or the amber light, we would have broken the law," said Mother, "and a policeman could have arrested us. Jack did not really want Mother to do wrong. It was just that he was in a hurry. God gives us some lights to follow too. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we do not obey them. God said, "Be still and know that I am God." That means that we should be quiet and listen as God talks to us. God said, "Go ye into all the world," but some people do not obey. God also said, "Come unto me, and I will give you rest," but some people have not come to the Lord. Are you obeying God's lights?
Memory Verse: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28).
Prayer Requests: Pray for those who do not obey God's rules, especially those who have not accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior.
Running Water
Songs: "Running Over"; "Jesus Gave Her Water"
Scripture: John 4:8-14
Story: Jack and Jean's cousins were visiting them from India. Carol and David's parents were missionaries there. Carol and David ran into the kitchen. There they saw the sink and the water faucets. They had never seen water come out of a faucet. David climbed up on a chair and turned on the water. Carol did the same. They both began to drink the water. This was different from their home in India. There they had to get their water from a well. Mother would put it in a pan and boil it. Then they would have to cool it before they could have drinking water.
"This is fun," said David, and he drank and drank. It was fun to turn on the faucet and see the water run out.
In the Bible we read about a woman who went to get some water. When she came to the well, Jesus was there. Jesus told the woman He had some special water. He gives the kind of water that will keep us from ever being thirsty again. The woman had come to drink regular water from this well. Jesus told her that He would give her everlasting life. She believed on Him.
