Education Cotroversies: A History of a Socialist Effect on Public School Education in America
Some say the socialist sabotage of school in America began centuries ago, long before the America that we know was established. Socialism itself began centuries ago and it is this philosophical and political view that many claim have the heart of America in its sights. Socialism promotes a general education for all, paid for by the government: the opposite of home school ideals. This can be traced back to Karl Marx himself who claimed that abolishing the family was necessary because it was the breeding ground of Christian and capitalist ideals. Without the family, there is no home school.
The suggestion that school should be taken out of the hands of families and put into the power of the government will go all the way up to the development of a high level federal agency for education controlled by federal funds for the entire country complete with federal agencies to disperse the federal money. The idea is that if the government pays for it, then the government can control it. In order to maintain control, the government would either need to abolish home school or figure out a way to slide government funds into the home school coffers. Here's a brief timeline of what the last century brought to the front of home school education.
From there on out, public education has been the norm and home school has been fighting to survive. As long as socialist views of education remain as the standard, freedom of thought and expression of religion will be stifled in America and that includes the right to educate our children through home school.
Communist Party USA founder, William Z. Foster stated, "Freedom will be established for anti-religious propaganda," and "The churches will remain free to continue their services, but their special tax and other privileges will be liquidated. Their buildings will revert to the State. Religious schools will be abolished and organized religious training for minors prohibited.
University of California rejected high school credit from schools that study history, literature and science from a Christian perspective (presently before the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles).
N.E.A opposed school vouchers because "85 percent of private schools are religious," and because, such a groundswell of students turning to religion "would only encourage economic, racial, ethnic, and religious stratification in our society."
Marx called for "Free education for all children in public schools."
"Centralize the paymaster, curriculum, testing, teacher education, and teacher licensing laws." Communist Party Chief Foster envisioned the day when all "the schools, colleges, and universities [would be] coordinated and grouped under the National Department of Education."
